We Worship the Vine, Nurturing and Celebrating It at Every Turn
We like to think of ourselves as the most rock'n'roll vintners in the region: rebels, but with a noble cause. Vicara is not just a name, but a true battle cry to enhance Monferrato and revolutionize the art of winemaking in Piedmont. We were founded in 1992, and three is our magic number.

Three founding families: Visconti, guardians of the territory since the 15th century; Cassinis, masters of communication; Ravizza, tireless vineyard workers.

Three regions from which we draw our wine, each with its own unique and untamed personality: Vadmon, Crosia, and Bricco Uccelletta. Lands that span 12 (3x4) different geological eras dating back over 30 million years: a true rarity in Piedmont!

And three, finally, are the pillars on which our philosophy rests.

Tradition, which has us digging deep into the roots of our territory, rich in viticulture and local varieties like grignolino, barbera, and freisa.

Research, because standing still has never been in our DNA.

Respect, for every hand that works with us and is part of this great family called Vicara.

Since 2022, a new phase has begun: Giuseppe and Emanuele Visconti have taken up the mantle to write new stories, never forgetting where we came from.

There are aficionados of rock, punk, and electronic music: we are devotees of the vine, and our wine is our music, the kind that shakes the roots.

.G

Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese DOC

Vintage › 2021

Vines › Grignolino

Vol. › 14,5%

Characteristics › A pale ruby red colour, tending to the typical amber of the grignolini. Aromas of rosehip, white pepper and fresh red fruit on the nose. The palate is elegantly mineral, fresh and pleasantly tannic.

Famously complex to vinify, Grignolino is the Monferrino grape par excellence, its proud, rebellious and stubborn character, faithfully reflects the soul of our people.

Even the name of the variety is controversial, some think it derives from "grignole" which means grape seeds (it contains more than the average),some from "grignè" which means laughing.

The vineyards of our .G are located in 3 municipalities: Ozzano, Rosignano and Treville, each of which is characterized by different soil and climatic conditions which are expressed in a greater complexity and aromatic richness of the wine. When fully ripe, the grapes are harvested by hand in small baskets and carefully selected.

Fermentation develops using indigenous yeasts in steel vats with an average maceration of 5 - 7 days, here the malolactic fermentation follows.

Cantico della Crosia

Barbera del Monferrato Superiore DOCG

Vintage › 2018

Vines › Barbera

Vol. › 15%

Characteristics › The Cantico della Crosia represents the tradition of the great Piedmont wines. An intense ruby colour with the aromas of red fruit, liquorice and leather. In the mouth it is spicy, rounded and savoury with a very persistent finish.

Surrounded on 3 sides by an old forest of oak, hornbeam and beech, the vineyard from which the Cantico della Crosia originates has a south / south-west exposure at a height of 260m above sea level. The soil, formed 70 million years ago as a result of stratified marine sedimentation, gives the wine its unique structure, finesse and minerality.

Spontaneous fermentation takes place in steel vats for about 10 days. After racking, the wine begins to mature in large 25hl oak barrels for about 15 - 18 months. There follows a rest period of at least 1 year in the bottle.

Cantico delle Crosia vintage 2018 is particularly fragrant, with a balanced body and a magical persistence. We suggest to keep some bottles in the cellar to be tasted in a few years!
